As of May 1, 2010, there is a $2 fee for new Compass Cards. The fee will be added to the cost of your transit pass. Your reusable Compass Card should last. Just keep it. Reload it.
There are several ways to get your new Compass Card, and once you get a Compass Card, you can reuse it and reload it with your pass. Reloading your Compass Card is easy.
Here’s how you can receive and reload your Compass Card:
Compass Card Fees
A $2 fee is now charged for new Compass Cards. This fee is added to the cost of your transit pass. Once you get your Compass Card – just keep it and reload it! Register your card so that if it is ever lost, stolen, or damaged, your card will be replaced and your pass balance restored. You must register your card to receive this protection. You will receive one free Compass Card replacement in a single 12-month period (for a registered card) if your card lost, stolen, or damaged. If your registered Compass Card has to be replaced more than one time during a single 12-month period, a $5 fee will be charged for any additional replacement cards. Other Compass Card Terms and Conditions are detailed in the SANDAG Comprehensive Fare Ordinance.
